2008 Mercedes SL55 AMG

When 2008 came around, it was time for me to get a new company car.  I was currently driving a 2006 Corvette Z06, and there was virtually no difference between the 2006 and the new 2008.  For the first time, I decided to get something other than a Vette.

I spent quite a bit of time looking at different cars.  In the end, it came down to either this Mercedes SL55 AMG  or a Jaguar XKR.  I went back and forth, but my business partner convinced me to get the Mercedes.

I have to admit that this was a very nice car.  It had good looks, was fast and sporty.  In fact, some of my friends considered it to be one of the nicest cars in my collection.  I only wish I felt the same way.

While I liked the car, I never felt that it had any real personality.  With a sticker price of over $150,000, I think a car should have personality.  I never felt this one did, and never really understood why the price was so high.  In my estimation, this should have been a $90,000 car and if it was, I would have been happier.

I hate to say it, but I’ve always regretted not buying the Jaguar XKR.  I think the sticker was around $95,000.  I think I would have enjoyed that car more.
