2002 VW New Beetle

You might think this is a strange car for me to have on the website, and normally I would agree with you.  I’ve shown it for illustration purposes.  This is an example of a very nice car that isn’t worth anything.  Here’s the story:

The company that I owned had several subsidiaries.  One of them was a travel agency, and the Manager of the travel agency had this car as her company car.  It sat in her garage most of the time since she would normally ride into work with another co-worker.  There were very few miles put on this car.

When we closed down the travel agency, I got possession of this car.  At the time, it was 15 years old and only had about 20,000 miles on it.  The car had been well maintained, garaged the entire time and used very little.  When I looked up the value of the car, it turned out that it was only worth about $2,000.  Basically, it was an older, brand new car that wasn’t worth anything.

I’ve ended up with several cars like this over the years, and it’s hard to figure out what to do with them.  I didn’t need it for anything, and it was too nice to sell for so little money.  In the end, I gave it to a friend of mine that needed a car.  I’ve done that several times with other low value cars, and at least I feel that they are getting appreciated and used well.
