1970 Dodge Challenger – 440 Six Pack

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

This was not only my second collector car, it’s also the first car that I really lusted over.  I was a Freshman in college when this car came out.  I saw one on-campus and quickly went to a local dealership to see this car.  I thought it was the most beautiful car ever.  I tried to convince my father to let me buy one, but being a practical man, he wouldn’t let me.  It was obviously the smart thing to do, but I was still disappointed.

Finally, almost 30 years later, I bought this one.  I lived through my practical years, raising a family, having a job, etc. but it was a dream come true.  I found it in Springfield, IL and it had been restored and taken care of by someone that knew E-Body cars inside and out.  He made sure that all the parts were original all the way down to the screws and bolts.

For a few years, I took this car to a lot of car shows.  Normally, the car won either First Class or Best of Show.  Being Plum-Crazy purple, it always drew admirers.  The Shaker Hood was a pretty rare option, so that helped as well.  I’ve had a lot of fun with this car!

Here’s the decoded fender tag:
