I can’t begin to tell you how much I love this car. It’s just about as much fun as you can possibly have on the street. I have known Greg Fernauld at SS and AFX in Arizona for years, and he builds some of the coolest cars I’ve ever seen. His passion is building accurate reproductions of the 1965 altered wheelbase A/FX and 1968 Hemi S/S Darts and Cudas. I’ve watched him with these cars for a long time, and when one of the S/S Barracuda clones that he built was being sold by the owner, I jumped on it.
I owned a real BO29 S/S Barracuda, which was a great car, but not streetable. I bought this car with the idea that I could have the best of both worlds. It is an accurate reproduction of a S/S Cuda, but it’s something that can be driven on the street. It’s still pretty radical, but it runs on pump gas, has an overdrive and is a ton of fun to drive. It still has the feel of a real S/S car.
Things only got better with this car. I had gotten to know Diane Sox and Buddy Martin while building some new style Sox & Martin cars. With their permission, I reworked this car into a reproduction of the 1968 Sox & Martin car that Ronnie and Buddy raced back in the early days. I even got to drive down the track at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway with Buddy in the car. This was a thrill for me.
