If you ask Bob which of the 4 cars was his favorite, he will answer “The 66 car”. It’s the first car that he built in the early 1990’s and was the car that he used to restart the Hemi Under Glass campaign. He drove this car from then until 2013. This car was used to produce several plastic and die-cast Hemi Under Glass models.
Altogether, the Hemi Under Glass was invited to the Goodwood Festival of Speed in Chichester, England 3 different times and this car went twice. The Festival is a hill climb with a lot of twists and turns. Needless to say, that’s not very easy for a drag car on 2 wheels to maneuver. Over the course of the run, Bob would find a little straightaway, bring the car up on 2 wheels, set the car down before the curve, steer through the curve and bring it back up. It was amazing to watch! An unexpected problem occurred when the flying sparks from the titanium pads ignited the hay bales along the sides of the course. It was necessary for the fire trucks to follow the car up the hill and put out any fires that the car started. I believe the Festival in 2013 was the last time this car was driven by Bob.
I’m not sure what year this video was shot, but it was shortly after he built the ’66 car in the early 1990’s. It has some great footage of Bob explaining the car as well as track video.
